first microprocessor?
Everybody these days knows about the current generation microprocessors like the Pentium 4, Dual Core, AMD Athlon etc, but ever wondered about the first microprocessor? The first microprocessor was developed by well... Intel. Its name was intel 4004. Its primary aim was to replace the hectic manipulations in ENIAC which were to be done while doing arithmetic calculations...
The Intel 4004 was capable of executing 92000 instructions per second. It was a 4-bit processor i.e. operated on 4 bits in 1 cycle ..a 16-pin IC, and was launched in 1971. It was mainly used by the Japnese company Busicom for developing a calculator.
